Checking in Matters: Supporting Carers this R U OK? Day.

On 11 September, the Autism Community Network (ACN) is proud to be part of R U OK? Day, shining a light on the importance of connection and well-being.

Raising awareness and starting conversations about mental health is vital. For carers, especially, the mental health toll can be immense. Research shows that carers often experience stress levels comparable to soldiers in combat. Living in a constant "fight or flight" state can lead to anxiety, depression, and burnout.

That's why days like R U OK? Day matters. They remind us all to check in with those around us, especially carers, who often put their own needs last while supporting loved ones. A simple, genuine "Are you OK?" can open the door to meaningful conversations, connection, and support.

At ACN, we understand the unique pressures carers face. That's why we offer FREE carers' support groups, both in-person and online. These groups provide a safe space to share the wins and the challenges, laugh, cry, and feel understood.

This important event is made possible through the support of our wonderful partners: Beyond Fun, Kindspire Support, APM, DESSA, Surgical House, and Plan Partners.

Together, we can reduce stigma, create understanding, and make it easier for people to seek help when they need it most.
